Biographie

José Menese Scott was born in La Puebla de Cazalla (Sevilla) in 1942. He began to sing under the painter and poet of his village Francisco Moreno Galván, who introduced him to the mairenista school until he turned him into his main supporter. He arrived in Madrid to work in the 'tablao´ Zambra along with Juan Varea, Pericón, El Gallina, Perico el del Lunar and the dancer Rosa Durán. In 1963 he released a LP accompanied by the guitar of Melchor de Marchena and words of Moreno Galván. He has always practised the oldest orthodoxy, something which proportioned him Jerez´s Professorship of Study of Flamenco Prize and the Tomás el Nitri Prize in Cordoba´s´ National Competition. In 1973 he appeared in the Olympia Theatre of París and until now has received an interminable number of prizes. He was the first to introduce flamenco into the University and leaded the re-vindictive artists in the Spanish transition from a Communist posture. He has numerous records and a biography written by Génesis García.
