Biographie
Antonio Montoya Flores was born in Pozuelo de Alarcón in Madrid in 1935. He is one of the most important dancers of the past century and a leader of a saga of artists now represented by his grandson Farruquito. He always re-vindicated the gypsy essence of his dance, as he was the grandson of the guitarist Ramón Montoya. He took his artistic name from his mother, known as La Farruca. This dancer travelled half the world taking his art with him, nearly incomprehensible due to his physical characteristics, as he hardly had a dancers stance. However on solely lifting an arm the prejudices would end. He triumphed in New York, he was one of the protagonists of Carlos Saura´s film "Flamenco" and influenced above all, the dancers of later generations, not only until the time of his death but even after it.
