This Natural Monument comprises a spectacular holm oak tree, a species known locally as "chaparro". It is over 200 years old, reaches around thirteen metres in height with a canopy diameter of 30 metres.

Its amazing size make this a vital landmark for local residents who have made it a witness to their daily lives. A range of different recreational and festive activities take place in the shade of the tree. These include the Fátima Pilgrimage in mid-May. For the last few years, the unique nature of this tree has led the area around it to be used for environmental education activities.

The area is a characteristic mountain landscape of gentle, open ridges in the Sierra Sur de Sevilla Mountains. Nevertheless, in the distance there are limestone mountains with steep slopes covered in dense scrub that break the horizon. You can explore this site and the surrounding area on foot, by bike or on horseback.

Close to Chaparro de la Vega you will find the course of the Guadalporcún River. Alongside it, in the shade of its riverine forest, is the Sierra Sur Greenway, that runs between Puerto Serrano and Olvera. This route also takes you to the Peñón de Zaframagón Nature Reserve, where there is an information point for the area.
