Villarrodrigo
The village is situated to the north east of the province, on the border with the Albacete province, at the foot of the Sierra de Segura mountains, in a landscape covered by olive trees, cereal fields and pastures. Inside the village we can find monuments such as the Parish Church and the Tower.
History
From the Roman period many remains have been found, most of them related to the work in the iron mines. The knights of the Order of Santiago reconquered the village in the first half of the 13th century. It then belonged to Segura de la Sierra.
King Felipe II declared it an independent village in 1553.
Its former name was Almadejuelo de la Sierra, but the village changed its name in the 15th century in honour of the Governor Don Rodrigo Manrique, father of the poet Jorge Manrique.
