Cruz de Camarolos from the Shrine
To walk the Ruta de la Cruz de Camarolos from the Shrine of Villanueva del Rosario, you begin at a cattle route that veers off to the left of the slope that descends to the springs. This is the path of the Camino de Río Gordo, which, after about 2 kilometres, connects with the trail a little before reaching the Llano Hondonero. Here, take the path on the right, which takes you opposite a deep gorge named La Madera.
Continue onwards. After a hard climb through a pine grove you will reach a meadow at the foot of the hill. However, before making the ascent it is advisable that you follow the path a little further to see a great well of snow, which has been kept in excellent condition.
To make the route circular, descend the hill via the way you ascended it, although it is advisable you continue to an "enchanted" copse of hawthorn, gall oak and holm oak trees, where the stones and tree trunks are covered in moss.
Distance: 12.41 km. Approximate duration: 5h. Route: Circular. Difficulty: medium-high. Maximum altitude: 1,491m.
