The "Plaza de Toros" in Villanueva del Arzobispo is in neo-Mudéjar style, with brick and horseshoe arches. It was designed by the architect Ángel Arbex, Commander of the Engineers. It was unveiled on 10 September 1928 by the "rejoneador " (bullfighter on horseback) Antonio Cañero and the matadors Manuel Jiménez Chicuelo, "El Algabeño", and Vicente Barrera, fighting eight bulls bred by Veragua.

This monument marks the architectural explosion of the 1920s in Villanueva del Arzobispo, with the addition of the Casa de los Arcos, the Old Casino of the Merchants' Association, etc.

The bullring is in the 3rd Category and seats 6,000 spectators. It is one of the most important bullrings in the province of Jaén where some of the most renowned figures in Bullfighting have performed, from Manolete the Rivera Ordoñez brothers, El Cordobés, Fandi… and has witnessed great afternoons of bullfighting and other cultural events in the town.

Free entrance.
