The Church of the Vera Cruz was built adjoining the old hospital of Vera Cruz between 1575 and 1605, at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries. The façade is subdued, with a semicircular arch over the main doorway and a bell-gable as a bell tower. It has a single nave, divided into two sections covered by groin vault and with two chapels in each section.

It contains the sculptural masterpiece of Villanueva del Arzobispo, El Cristo de la Vera Cruz, patron saint of the town, the work of the sculptor Mariano Benlliure, and La Virgen de la Encarnación by the sculptor Domingo Sánchez Mesa.
