The Wine Harvest Festival started in 1954 in order to make known the virtues of the wines obtained from the vineyards of Villanueva del Ariscal.
Various events are organized as part of these festivities prior to one of the key moments, the Pisá grape treading from which the year’s first grape juice is obtained. A highlight among these activities is the opening speech ceremony, with the Crowning of the Festival Queen and presentation of her Court of Honour, of the Child Queen and Her Ladies, and the placing of insignia on the Town Crier and Children’s Foreman.
Another of the important moments takes place in the pilgrimage, on the 29th of August, in which San Ginés, the patron saint of vineyards, is carried to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Loreto, where the first fruit of the vine is offered to the Patron Saint of El Aljarafe.
The festival ends with the fair, which opens its doors on Thursday of the first week in September, specifically from the 2nd to the 5th, ending on Sunday, with treading of the first grapes in the town council marquee.
The Wine Harvest Festival has been declared an Andalusian Cultural Property and a festivity of Andalusian Tourist Interest.
