Villanueva del Ariscal
Municipality located in the heart of the Aljarafe, surrounded by a landscape of olive trees, fields of cereal and grape vines which produce delicious, fruity young wines. The most interesting monument is the church of Santa María de las Nieves.
History
It seems that the origins of the village date back to Roman times. At the time of Al-Andalus it was a farmstead.
In 1253 it was reconquered by the Christians and was handed over to the Grand Master of the Order of Santiago, D. Pelay Correa.
From the end of the 14th century until 1831 it was the administrative and judicial centre of the towns belonging to the Orden de Santiago (Order of Saint James) in the Aljarafe district.
