Refugio Antiaéreo de la Guerra Civil - Villanueva de Córdoba
Under the Plaza de España in Villanueva de Córdoba the history of the Spanish Civil War has a hidden treasure. It is home to the province's best preserved Civil War air-raid shelter, which is a space that has now been restored for town activities and to ensure this dark episode in history is not forgotten.
Constructed in 1937 to protect the population from air riads, this is an enormous space divided into five naves by splendid red brick arches resting on thick granite pillars. It has three access tunnels, one of which is 70 metres in length.
Free admission.
Tuesday-Friday: 9 am to 2.00 pm. Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: 10 am to 2 pm. Closed on Monday.
