At the end of the 17th century, what later would become the Casa-palacio de los Condes de Vistahermosa was already the mansion of a rich aristocrat from Utrera. In the 18th century, owner of the palace appeared as don Pedro Luis Ulloa-Celis (1697-1776), the Conde de Vistahermosa, an important breeder of fighting bulls, who made many modifications to the large rambling house, including the majestic façade.

Doña Maria Luisa Ulloa, sister and heir of the III Conde de Vistahermosa, sold the building that ended up in the hands of Simón Gibaxa in 1841. After the death of the latter in 1860, the estate was inherited by his nephew don Enrique de la Cuadra y Gibaja, who adapted it to the new requirements and tastes of the wealthy bourgeoisie of the time. It combines avant-garde elements, such as iron and glass, with others which are more historical and romantic, like marble, tiles and wood, masterfully used in the decoration of the impressive salons: Pompeian, that of the mirrors and Moorish, Chinese or German Renaissance.

During these years the mansion of he who was to become the first Marqués de San Marcial continued to grow and be improved, becoming a beautiful palace which would be the scene for an intense social life, celebrations, meetings and fiestas, which were attended by the most prominent members of society. The building grew until what it has become today in the Calle Afanador. The so-called ”summer house" was built, the beautiful garden was designed and around it the spectacular rooms were distributed. These feature the impressive Sala Árabe built in 1882 and of Nasrid inspiration.

Since 1939 the Palacio de los Marqueses de Vistahermosa has been the Town Hall of Utrera.
