History
The first human settlement dates from prehistoric times. In 1923, the Soto Dolmen was found in this municipal area. It is from a corridor and has rustic engravings. This megalithic monument is related to the culture of the Portuguese Algarve.
The village was built on the ruins of the Roman settlement of Conistorgis, of which only a few remains of ceramics and some tombs have been found.
In the times of Alfonso X it appeared in a Privilege that was granted with the name Puerto del Camino. After, it appeared with its current name due to a reorganization of municipal areas effected by the County of Niebla to which it belonged until 1342, when it went on to depend on the estate of Gibraleon.
Finally, it returned to the County of Niebla after its sale.
