Tózar
History
The name comes from the Arabic “Tusar”, although the Pileta de la Zorra dolmen, possibly of Chalcolithic origin, indicates that earlier peoples had passed through the area.
The silos and the numerous coins and ceramics found at the “Tejar” (tile factory) are from the Roman period.
Archaeologists have dated the impressive necropolis, situated on the very walls of the village, to Visigothic rule.
The Porqueriza tower once formed part of the communications network between the castle of Moclín and the Alhambra in Granada.
Meanwhile, the numerous trenches and casemates that visitors can see date from the Spanish Civil War.
