Torre Pimentel
Located in the heart of Torremolinos, the Torre de los Molinos or Torre Pimentel, named in honour of a soldier who collaborated with the Catholic Monarchs in the conquest of the city of Málaga (late 15th century), is the origin of the name of the town. It is located between the Calle San Miguel and the Cuesta del Tajo, on the road which leads to the beach called El Bajondillo.
It was built in around 1300, beside a cliff, and once belonged to the network of defensive towers developed by the Nasrids to defend the Mediterranean coast and the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada and its ports in Málaga.
The Torre Pimentel is built of stucco or "tabiyya", it is twelve metres high and has a solid base, two floors and a large terrace. You just need to close your eyes to imagine the watchtower with views out to the horizon day and night.
A small and humble neighbourhood millers grew up around the Torre Pimentel which in time became the modern town of Torremolinos. It is now a reference point for the centre of the town.
