The Festival of the Holy Christ of the Expiration of Órgiva, declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia
The Andalusian Tourism Council has awarded the prestigious recognition of Andalusian Tourist Interest to the Festival of the Holy Christ of the Expiration of Órgiva, an important and deeply rooted event in the Alpujarra region, in the province of Granada.
This festival, which is 200 years old, is important because of its deep meaning and ability to attract both locals and visitors from all over the world who want to experience the authenticity of this unique celebration.
The Festival of the Holy Christ of the Expiration has three special moments: "la bajá", which kicks off the festivity with an impressive fireworks display; "la salía", the highlight, when the solemn procession of the image takes place; and "la subía", when the image returns to its chapel after the festival.
This recognition by the Regional Government of Andalusia is a significant boost for cultural and religious tourism in Órgiva and the surrounding area. The image of the Holy Christ of the Expiration, created by artist Pablo de Rojas, is a real Andalusian Baroque gem with Granada influences.
