Provincial Museum of the Uva del Barco
It was created in 2006 by the Terque Town Council and the Association of Friends of the Museum. The Provincial Museum of the Uva del Barco is provisionally located in a hall in the Manuel Galiana Municipal Theatre, in the Plaza de los Barrileros, while the building that will definitively house the museum is under construction. The purpose of the museum is the preservation of the characteristics of the grapevine culture in the province of Almería.
It aims to reconstruct the social and economic history of Almería and its province, which for two centuries lived largely from the cultivation and marketing of table grapes, the so-called "uva del barco". The funds have been donated by and documented in all the grape-growing towns and villages in the province, where numerous people involved in this activity have been very generous.
The Provincial Museum of the Uva del Barco currently consists of a permanent display relating to the work involved in the cultivation of grapes and in the harvest which closes the life-cycle of this fruit. And it provides extensive information at a provincial level by organising exhibitions, conferences and demonstrations of barrel-making in all the towns dedicated to the cultivation of grapes.
