Royal Fair and Fiestas of the Virgen de la Luz

The most typical festivities in Tarifa take place on the first Sunday in September, when the patron saint – Virgen de la Luz – is taken to the town.

The image arrives with an agricultural parade, together with hundreds of horse riders, which accompany it from the shrine. A few days before the parade, the queens of the festivities are crowned and the inaugural speech takes place. Then the fairground and main entrance lights are switched on.

The fairground, with its marquees and rides for the younger ones, becomes a meeting point full of happiness, dancing and good humour.
