Snowshoeing through the woods in Sierra Nevada

If you like hiking and you love the snow, a good snowshoe route is a sure bet, and we are sure that you will want to go back for more. Next to the Pradollano resort in Sierra Nevada we have beautiful forests and trails for doing this sport. Thanks to the snowshoes you will not sink in the snow and you can float right over it without the need for any type of previous experience. Good mountain footwear, a pair of poles and you can enjoy marvellous scenery like this.

The day we recorded this article was spectacular. The sun was shining like never before and an amazing cover of snow had fallen the previous night, so the snow was still on the trees, hanging like Christmas decorations.

In just a few minutes we had got our mountain gear ready and accompanied by the company Al-Andalus Activa, who we took the trip with, we began the snowshoe route, going through dense forests of wild pine which even the sun could barely penetrate.

Walking along, flanked by these enormous trees, with the sound of the wind and your own footsteps crunching on the snow is a real experience.

The snowshoes seemed magical. It's amazing how they allow you to easily walk over snow that would reach your waist if you weren't wearing them, meaning that at times you feel like an explorer reaching beautiful landscapes that are often inaccessible unless you go well-equipped.

Nevertheless, you can never be too safe, can you? They are magical, but not foolproof, although it is very clear that without the help of snowshoes you could never stroll around such spectacular places given the amount of snow that covered everything.

As we walked further, small rays of sun indicated that the exit to open ground was near.

We gradually left the forests behind and almost without warning we came across a huge esplanade without vegetation but flanked by forests where sunshine and snow finally met, forming white countrysides dotted only by forests.

Imagine the joy of walking through a place like that!

The views of the Pradollano resort from there were amazing and, as you can see, the forest below gives you an idea of the spectacular settings that the route crosses.

And to end the trip, what better than some wine, homemade cheese and chorizo to recharge your batteries!

What more can you ask for, good local flavours, a spectacular day of sun and these views.

More than one of us wanted to stay for a few more hours!

From children to adults, this activity is an ideal alternative to skiing in Sierra Nevada which, as we mentioned at the start, needs no physical preparation or technical knowledge, it will introduce you to stunning landscapes where you can enjoy a day on perfect snow, for both skiers and non-skiers who want to put their skis to one side for a few hours. Well worth it!
