Turret Tower

The Turret Tower in Siles is a tower with a circular floor plan and two floors. It is also part of the remains of the city wall built in the 14th century. The Turret was part of the "alcazarejo" (small fortress), located in the southern part of the wall, near the Church of La Asunción. This small fortress was built in 1397, possibly on the remains of an earlier Almohad structure. It originally consisted of the Turret Tower and a second tower, which no longer exists. These were enclosed by a wall to which a cistern was attached. Later, in the 15th century, a pair of civil buildings (known as "Casa de la Tercia") were built inside the fortress, and the bailey was enclosed, building the cistern and part of the wall around it. These changes already appear in the texts of Francisco de León, as early as 1468.
