The Circular Sierra Alta de Siles trail - PR-A 78 starts in the Portichuelo area, at Km. 1 of the Siles to Puntal path, in the Sierra de Segura which forms part of the largest protected natural area in Spain.

Most of this long circular route runs along trails covering very uneven ground, with constant uphill and downhill slopes. We will see the valleys of the rivers Tus and Guadalimar and the Mentiras hills, the Sierra de Alcaraz and the Calar del Mundo, whose southern edge meets the route in the middle of a stark and solitary landscape. Particularly worthy of mention is the impressive Peñalcón gorge.

Because of its length and inclines, this route allows us to discover the low, middle and high areas of the Segura mountains, dominated respectively by Aleppo, black and Austrian pines, with the holm-oaks and the abundance of maples standing out in the high areas.

The route passes through the cave of San Blas, where there is a water source, and through the bullring, an old pen for semi-wild livestock. Off the route, but along paths indicated by arrows, you can reach two essential places: La Laguna, a quiet clearing surrounded by holm oaks, where a beautiful seasonal pool emerges, and the Puntal, an emblematic Siles peak where people go to free-fly.

Among the many animals present in the area are mountain goats, deer, griffon vultures and peregrine falcons.
