Circular Peña del Olivar Trail - PR-A 175
The Circular Peña del Olivar trail - PR-A 175 starts and finishes at the Peña del Olivar recreational area, next to a small botanical garden, which is worth visiting. The trail runs through the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas Natural Park, and mostly takes paths, although some sections follow forest tracks and roads.
It crosses extensive forests of Corsican and black pine with thick Mediterranean undergrowth, and in particular, on the northeastern face of the Bucentaina, a dense forest dominated by holm oaks, strawberry bushes and viburnum.
On the eastern face of the same mountain we will cross a delightful path which ambles along under the striking geomorphological formations of Piedra del Agujero rock, while on the other side of the valley we can see the bold limestone landscape of El Mundo, El Puntal and Los Calarejos.
The route passes through the Fresnedilla, a nice village with scattered country houses, with vegetable gardens and cattle sheds in the most authentic traditional Segura style.
Just before that, we can turn off to the Pozo de la Nieve, a robust hidden stone construction where snow used to be stored for the summer.
During the last section we can see the lush woods by the Canalica stream, with poplars, ash, mountain elms, hazelnut trees and willows.
The area is rich in wild boar and deer, its skies are full of birds of prey such as the golden eagle, the booted eagle and the Griffon vulture, among other birds.
