Seville at night: accessible plans to enjoy the city

Cultura Catedral de Sevilla.jpg

Transit using a wheelchair is pleasant in the Andalusian capital, friendly with bike lanes and quite adapted, in general. Seville's Night reveals its secrets: also for adapted tourism.

Seville's nights contain a main ingredient: the beauty of a city that, after twilight, shines stately, ancient and full of secrets in every nook… like the Isleta de los Pájaros in Maria Luisa Park. Enjoy a snack, drink a beer, dine fabulously, experience a cultural plan or take a stroll… it's a matter of choosing, while you are free to bathe in its monumental presence. That pervades its palacial houses, narrow streets, sun and shade, convent architecture, bars…

The fact that the pavements are wide, and that the bike lane runes many kilometres, facilitates accessible tourism (wheelchair users can use them). The old town is, furthermore, one of the largest in Europe. Here is a road shared by pedestrians and vehicles alike, along which everybody travels, whether on foot or on wheels. Respect, as always, is the key to pleasant coexistence.

The night view, from the Guadalquivir, returns the image of a Spanish capital that was adored during Romanticism for its picturesque atmosphere. Over one hundred operas set in this city are proof of it: Mozart's "Don Giovanni” (1787) and "The Marriage of Figaro” (1785), among others.

Before dusk

Watching the sunset from the privileged view of Seville's most characteristic modern building of the 20th century is an incredible experience. Its high towers, which shoot upwards to the sky, the combination of brick and polychrome ceramic, the symbolism of Spanish regionalism… make the setting a unique place. The Plaza de España is the pride of the city.

And the Plaza del Triunfo, when night closes, is a magnificent and privileged viewpoint, surrounded by buildings that are World Heritage since the end of the 1980s. Among these, the Cathedral.

Accessible old town

From the Town Hall we recommend that you follow the accessible routes, where traffic can be more or less intense. These include the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, the Royal PalaceIndias Archive, the Giralda and the Cathedral.

This Cathedral… adorned with its nocturnal costume of lights, scented with orange blossom given off by the orange trees, in sacred competition with other Catholic churches of global importance, like Saint Peter in Rome and St. Paul in London. It shows its many doors that invite you to decipher their iconography, representing episodes like the Baptism of Jesus, or the Door of Saint Michael (known as the one crossed through by the confraternities during their station of penitence). Streamlined thanks to its Islamic minaret, our Giralda, the Gothic cathedral is an admirable monument in full grandeur. Close your eyes and listen to the sound of the carriages…

Parks and gardens

The Islamic legacy bequeathed many gardens, and the 19th century, with its taste for green lungs, did the rest. Full of trees, flowers, plants and fountains that take us back to a time of a multicultural Seville. The María Luisa Park is a symbol of the city. A historic garden fruit of the generosity of the Infante of Spain and Duchess of Montpensier, Luisa Fernanda de Borbón, who donated it to the city in 1893. This charming romantic garden can be visited from a wheelchair peacefully. Furthermore, it remains open until midnight. Its statues honour distinguished characters like Bécquer and Concha Piquer.

A pleasant dinner

As befits a city of its category, Seville's gastronomy is abundant, varied and delicious. If you wish to find accessible places to dine, on Calle San Fernando is tavern of the same name, which features regional and creative cuisine with a minimalist touch, for a place with culinary options for coeliacs and a menu in Braille.

And Andalusian dishes with maritime flavours are what you can try at "El Cairo” restaurant, on Calle Reyes Católicos. Although for Seville's classical proposals, is Robles Placentines, near the Plaza de la Encarnación, more known as Las Setas.
