Parish Church of San Jacinto
The Church of San Jacinto is located right in the Triana district, where the Calle Pagés del Corro and Calle San Jacinto come together, and near the Parish Church of Santa Ana, the Nuestra Señora de la O, and the Convent of Nuestra Señora de Consolación, the old Inquisition castle and Plaza del Altozano square.
Originally, the construction of the Dominican convent was in a place that was unsuitable so, in 1670, a decision was taken to move it to the shrine of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria of Triana. In 1735, construction of San Jacinto was started over this shrine by Matías José de Figueroa. The floor layout and elevation belong to him and he directed the works until they reached the ceiling; at which point, he leaves due to incidents with the Community. By 1740, the main nave was covered; however the church did not open until January 1775.
The outer perimeters of the building are painted in red ochre and the vertical and horizontal structural elements in sand yellow; these two colours contrast with the white ceramic roofs and the blue ceramic tiles that decorate some parts of the steeple.
The building has three façades and adjoins the old cloister — now a school — via the gospel wall. The main façade is on Calle Pagés del Corro, the façade of the epistle side on the Calle San Jacinto and the east wall façade on the Calle Ruiseñor.
