Colegial del Divino Salvador Church
In the last few decades of the 17th century, this medieval church was built in Seville on the site of an old mosque dating from the Caliphate, which had previously been a Roman basilica. The courtyard of orange trees survives from the mosque. The large façade of the El Divino Salvador church, its slender columns and the series of chapels and altarpieces that adorn its interior provide an incomparable setting for discovering the world of Baroque Seville.
Outstanding features include the main altarpiece and the sacramental chapel, the images of Our Father Jesus of the Passion and Saint Christopher, by Juan Martínez Montañez, and the Sacred Christ of Love, by the Cordoban artist Juan de Mesa. The 18th century organ and the high and low sacristies are also outstanding.
