Capilla de la Orden Tercera Franciscana
The marvellous Chapel of the Orden Tercera Franciscana, next to the church of San Pedro de Alcántara, is in Seville's Calle Cervantes.
The Chapel of the Orden Tercera is a small church founded 1677 on land from the San Pedro de Alcántara convent, even though it had a secular role. Over the years the small chapel was enhanced with altarpieces and paintings, mainly from the 18th century when the aristocrat Rodrigo Clemente chose this place for his burial, funding the new altarpiece and a series of paintings related to his faith and the patrons.
The chapel has a single nave covered with a reduced barrel vault, twin transverse arches and lunettes, with a small lamp that illuminates the chapel interior.
At the head of the chapel, the main altarpiece dates from the 18th century in the Baroque style. The side walls have two large paintings of Saint Francis descending to Purgatory and the Immaculate Virgin. There are also two small altars, one dedicated to the Virgen del Carmen and the other to San Clemente.
The main door is at the foot of the chapel, leading to a kind of compass, in the upper part of which there is a tribune with wooden latticework, leading to other parts of the building.
Free admission.
