Our trip to Doñana starts in Seville. You will be accompanied by one of our specialised guides and enjoy a wonderful day surrounded by nature.

Our first stop will be the Sevillian town of La Puebla del Rio, where the marshland of Doñana begins. The Guadalquivir River flows through this municipality, where we find one of the best preserved wild olive groves in the area, the Dehesa de Abajo. This area is home to the largest colony of white storks in Europe, which take advantage of the treetops and the nearby La Rianzuela lake to nest. This pastureland is raised slightly over the marshland making it ideal for observing hundreds of birds in their natural habitat and the flat landscape of the marshland.

"La Dehesa de Abajo in the Doñana region is home to the largest colony of white storks in all of Europe and a well-preserved grove of wild olive trees”.

Each year the marshlands give shelter to approximately 200,000 individuals of more than 300 different species of birds, which makes this place the most important natural area on the European continent. The area is also the largest rice field in Spain by cultivated area and the one with the highest productivity due to the high summer temperatures and the water available in the surrounding area because of the Guadalquivir River. Thanks to its peculiar geography and landscape, many films have been shot here, like the award-winning film "Marshland".

Leaving the rice fields behind, the tour continues as far as the north of Doñana National Park, and visits the village of El Rocío, famous throughout the country for its pilgrimage. A village reminding us of past times in Andalusia, where a typical Andalusian atmosphere of past centuries is recreated. It is like travelling back in time, with horses and people strolling along the sandy streets. The trip takes you through the village until you reach the renowned Shrine of Nuestra Señora del Rocío, the popular chapel where over a million people gather every year to take part in one of the most important religious pilgrimages in the world.

"The village of El Rocío receives more than a million visitors every year during the celebration of the pilgrimage"

After visiting the village of El Rocío you will visit the Acebrón Palace, next to the Arroyo de la Rocina, where you will discover another of Doñana's ecosystems: the gallery forest. You will make a circular hiking tour on which you will interpret footprints left by animals and learn about some of the endemic species of flora in this natural environment. After finishing the hike and a short rest to have lunch and enjoy some typical cuisine from the region, you will then move on to the next ecosystem included in the tour: the beach. Over 30 kilometres long, Doñana beach is the longest unspoilt beach in Spain, stretching from the renowned town of Matalascañas to the mouth of the Guadalquivir River opposite the coast of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. There will be a short tour of the mobile dunes where you will observe the flora and fauna that are characteristic in this ecosystem.

Weather permitting, you will also be able to take a refreshing dip that you will find very rewarding.
If you are visiting us in the summer, please remember to bring your swimming costume!

It will be late evening when you return to Seville in the 4x4 passing through the wooded area of the Doñana National Park where you can see the great mammals that live there, like deer, foxes and wild boars, and try to catch a glimpse of the park's icon, the Iberian lynx.

We would like to remind you that we also organise two-day trips to the Doñana National Park from Seville with one night's accommodation included and this trip is available for private groups.
