La Sevilla de Magallanes
In 1517, the Portuguese sailor Fernando Magellan arrived at Seville, a great colonial metropolis, with the intention of obtaining permits and funds for his voyage to the Spice Islands, a journey to the East through the West that would end with the first voyage around the world in history, made between 1519 and 1522, which the Port of Seville as the port of origin and arrival, also completed by Spanish sailor Juan Sebastián Elcano.
In this route, we will discover the places in the city that are associated with the preparations for Magellan's trip: the Casa de la Contratación, El Arenal, Muelle de las Mulas, the marinera Triana, etc. You will also learn about the difficulties faced by the captain in Seville and some of the unique episodes that occurred during the expedition. The voyage around the world was aimed at discovering a new route to Spice Islands, searching for plant species also linked to the Magellan's circumnavigation, plants they found in different stopovers that we can currently find in Seville.
