The Monument to Juan Martínez Montañés is a sculpture located in the Plaza del Salvador. It represents the sculptor from Alcalá la Real, Juan Martínez Montañés (1568-1649), who was one of the greatest exponents of the Seville school of sculpture.
This monument is one of the most interesting that was created on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1929. It was made in bronze by the sculptor Agustín Sánchez-Cid.
It consists of a quadrangular pedestal with bevelled white-marble corners. On the corners figures of angels stand out in relief, while the main facets are reserved for the cartouches. On the upper part there is a seated figure of Martínez Montañés, holding an image of the Immaculate Conception (popularly known as "la Cieguecita" or "Little Blind Girl") as a symbol of his artistic activity.
