Fundación Museo Pintor Amalio
As if it were a premonition, Amalio legally constituted the Foundation which bears his name just 8 days before he died on the 3rd of February, 1995.
Some years before, in 1973, Amalio bought the house which is number 7, Plaza de Doña Elvira, in Seville, and there he established his studio. The painter wanted to have the Giralda nearby so that he could see it every time he felt like painting it, during the day or at night, in winter and in summer. It was he himself who insisted on the phrase which is inscribed on the plate outside on the wall and which is full of emotional connotations:
“Amalio placed this house near the Giralda to make it his own".
He also wanted it to be written in the languages of the three cultures have always coexisted in Seville: Christian, Moorish and Hebrew, as a symbol of tolerance and co-existence between peoples.
This house is the seat of the foundation whose aim and purpose are the promotion, dissemination, cultivation and study of the art painting, without prejudice or veto to the other art forms. Special interest is devoted to the legacy and works, both artistic and literary of the artist known as the Painter of the Giralda, Amalio García del Moral, as confirmed in the founding deeds of the same presented before the Notary, Antonio Carrasco García.
The Museum is home to a permanent collection which comprises part of the collection “The 365 gestures of the Giralda”. Temporary exhibitions of both new and established artists are also organised.
