The 17th-century Cruz de los Juramentos is a magnificent jasper cross standing on a stone plinth. It is located in the Calle Fray Ceferino González, at the side of the Archive of the Indies and opposite the main doorway of the Cathedral.
Merchants used to make trade agreements while standing before it. A handshake was enough to seal a financial deal between both parties, as it was worth much more than a signed document. It represented an oath between traders.
