The Convento de la Encarnación is located right in the centre of the city, opposite the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace in the heart of the Santa Cruz neighbourhood in Seville.
It is popularly known as the Convento de Santa Marta, since it is located in the grounds of the old Hospital de Santa Marta. The convent belongs to the Order of Hermits of Saint Augustine, an order founded in 1244.
The church consists of a single nave covered with ribbed vaults supported by four corbels. The presbytery has a square floor plan and is covered with a dome that coincides with an old Moorish chapel. In the 19th century, other rooms were added to the convent after the arrival of the Augustinian community.
Only the church can be visited. In the convent adjacent to the church you can purchase the famous "Recortes de la Sagrada Forma", fine white round wafers that represent the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, they are not consecrated.
