The Catalina de Ribera Fountain is located on Paseo Catalina de Ribera, a landscaped area of greatest historical, artistic, scenic and environmental interest in Seville.
Its current appearance is the result of the refurbishment carried out between 1917 and 1921. It runs along the outside walls of the Alcázar palace, along Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, from the University, the old Tobacco Factory, to the Murillo Gardens, and is one of the entrances to the Santa Cruz neighbourhood.
Fountain attached to the wall of the gardens of the Real Alcázar palace. It is made up of an architectural Baroque front with two parts, divided into three sections. The central one boasts the portrait of Catalina de Ribera, made of glazed ceramic. At either side there are two allegorical paintings by Francisco Maireles, and above these there are painting of floral motifs. It is worth highlighting the marble façade from the Palace of the Marquises of Pumarejo. Finally, the water is collected in a pool divided into three sections.
It stands out because of its commemorative nature, paying homage to one of the historical figures of the city. It was designed by Juan Talavera y Heredia.
