Located in the town of Segura de la Sierra, the recently restored Church of the Jesuits (last quarter of the 16th century) offers a Latin cross plan. It has Renaissance decor, with a semi-circular arch with very deteriorated reliefs of the Apostles on the support and flanked by two freestanding columns upon a pedestal with Doric capitel. Finished with frieze and a triangular base with a small niche and a very deteriorated coat of arms. Upon this, a large window with lintel, ledge and windows and carved stone jambs.

The transept consisted of four semi-circular arches resting on entablature and boxed pilasters and the presbytery was covered with a half-barrel vault. Outside, its corners were reinforced with alternating headers and stretchers.

The arrival of the Jesuits to Segura de la Sierra took place around 1569 and the church was built between 1583 and 1593, in use until the expulsion of these in 1767. Today, this building has been thoroughly renovated and converted into an assembly/exhibition hall where many activities are held.

The church stands within a patio of great beauty leading to this building and another annexed one, called “Celemín house”, which was probably the old school of the novices of the order.

For more information, contact the Town Hall in Segura de la Sierra between 9am and 3pm from Monday to Friday at Regidor Juan de Isla, 1, or call our contact telephone number.
