Located in the town of Santa Elena, the Llanos de las Americas Visitor Centre offers a strategic location, outside the Despeñaperros gorge, leading to the heart of the Nature Reserve. It invites travellers making a stop here to enjoy the panoramic views the gorge offers the eyes.

Furthermore, this centre offers more specific information about natural and cultural surroundings of the Despeñaperros nature reserve and the activities possible in the area.

The facilities of the Llanos de las Americas Visitor Centre present the main natural, ethnographic and cultural values of the Despeñaperros nature reserve and the neighbouring Cascada de la Cimbarra in the province of Jaén.

The exhibition route includes different technical resources. Through panels, models, life-size reproductions, interactive applications and sensory experiences, tourists can visit, for example, the unique the region's history or orography, thanks to a central model that shows the relief and landscape of the area, and natural reproductions of cave paintings from the Iberian votives found in the Cueva de los Muñecos cave.

Other significant elements of the interpretation elements are the reproduction of a the Iberian golden eagle, artistic prints of emblematic fauna like the lynx and the wolf, a diorama that auditorily and visually reproduces the changeover from day to night here, and an interactive computer with practical information on the towns historically linked to the territory.

All facilities include accessibility to the contents by people with visual impairment, and use Braille and reliefs so that they may appreciate the landscape in the central model.
