Following the tradition, once again the beaches of the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda in the province of Cádiz are the venue for the Sanlúcar Horse Races. The event takes place every year in 2 cycles of 3 days each during the month of August.
These Horse Races on the beaches of Sanlúcar de Barrameda at the mouth of the Guadalquivir river, the old Betis, are the oldest in the Spanish Turf Calendar and have been held since 1845. This event takes place in Sanlúcar, in the unique surroundings of the Doñana National Park with beaches, marshland and an incredible selection of gastronomic delights, making it ideal for a visit at any time of the year.
The "Horse races" on the beaches of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, are an integral part of the national circuit together with those held in San Sebastián, Seville and Mijas and therefore they are subject to the rules governing official equestrian competitions. Over the years, the "Horse Races on the Beach of Sanlúcar de Barrameda" have not lost any of their traditional category as a summer event in Andalusia. They have attracted the growing attention of the Spanish and international media, radio and TV channels, press (newspapers, weeklies and magazines, both specialist and tourist), etc, and they all come together for a few days on the beaches of Sanlúcar.
