Rota Gate
Popularly known in the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda as the """Arch of Rota", is the only gate of the old medieval wall that has been preserved, and is named after the town it leads to – Rota.
Built in the 15th century, it was originally known as Puerta de la Fuente (Fountain Gate), as there is a fountain close by, leading to Plaza de la Fuente Vieja, around which the Arrabal de la Fuente district (16th century) appeared, outside the city walls.
It is thought that the gypsies who lived here created “Mirabrás”, a popular type of flamenco singing.
