San Silvestre de Guzmán
Village situated in the southwest of the province, on the border with Portugal; the river Guadiana forms a natural frontier.
The most common activities in the AREA there are remains of windmills for grinding flour.
History
The presence of Man in these lands goes back to prehistoric times. The proximity of the river Guadiana and its importance as an access route for commerce from the sea to the interior of the peninsula is decisive in the explanation of human presence in this AREAs. In 1531 D. Silvestre de Guzman, Marquis of Ayamonte, donated the pastures of Verdes and Campanillas in order to repopulate an extensive AREA in the north of his estate and in 1595, his succesor, D. Francisco de Guzman, granted the village the Carta Puebla or title of "Villa" from which moment it was called San Silvestre de Guzman.- Max 12
