Estación de Vuelo Libre de San José del Valle
This flying site is located to the southeast of the Cadiz town of San José del Valle, a municipality located in the centre of Cádiz province, a transitional area between rolling countryside and mountain terrain and showing the characteristics of both kinds of geographical space.
The launch site can be accessed from the top of the town of San José. We find a slope located at 420 metres above sea level, facing west – northwest and with a large quarry halfway up the slope. Access is from the town going towards the masts located at the top of the Monte de la Cruz. Thenorthwest launch site is to the left of the junction. It is possible to launch facing north and northwest and there is an east-southeast facing launch, but that is not currently feasible because of the height of the vegetation.
The town's excellent location makes it the perfect gateway for endless numbers of activities linked to outdoor tourism (trekking, biking or watersports), culture (pueblos blancos, mill routes or baths routes), architectural heritage (Gigonza Castle or the Tempul Aqueduct), ethnography (Spanish Fighting Bull breed) or nature Alcornocales National Park.
Climate
The predominant climate in the area is Mediterranean, although there are other influencing factors due to its geographical situation that do not have a clear, defined component. The influence of the oceanic Mediterranean climate of the Atlantic coast is reflected in the mild winters, with average temperatures of around 10º. Due to its transitional location, we also find inland Mediterranean climate characteristics, since the summers are somewhat hotter than on the coast, with temperatures exceeding 40º C on occasions. Precipitation is plentiful during autumn and winter, and the period from June to August is very dry.
In general, the area has a climate that is excellent for flying.
