Sugar Museum
At Christmas in Rute, an artisan and confectioner's city in the Subbaetic mountain range, the La Flor de Rute sugar museum has become an essential visit.
Founded over fifteen years ago, it has more than thirty pieces made of sugar and of considerable size, including reproductions of Andalusian monuments, the Disneyland Paris Castle or St. Peter's Basilica. These sugary buildings are accompanied by life-size figures of the Duchess of Alba and painters such as Picasso and Dalí, besides different sweet paintings, advertising posters and a reproduction of the football world cup, all made out of sugar.
But the sugar museum is much more: go back into the past with the recreation of an old "mantecado" (cakes eaten at Christmas) factory while strolling amongst utensils, old machinery and curiosities, such as the autographs of illustrious consumers (Rafael Alberti, Florinda Chico, Camilo José Cela, Julia Otero or Siempre Así). Enjoy the free tasting offered to visitors, see letters of congratulation that have come from Japan, Cuba, Australia and the United States, and don't be surprised if, at any time, you bump into any of the famous and colourful characters who have already visited us.
