Festival of los Mozos de Rus

The Festival of los Mozos de Rus has its origin in an epidemic of the bubonic plague that devastated the village, killing most of the youths in this Jaen town. According to tradition, in order to combat the epidemic the residents carried the Blessed Sacrament out in procession, and as a result the sick began to heal.

To commemorate this miracle, every year the Blessed Sacrament goes out in procession as if it were Corpus Christi, and at the same time a carnival of "masks" and an authentic folk festival are celebrated, in which the ruseños spontaneously take to the streets to voice their wit, their taunts and their criticisms.
