All that remains of an old 11th- and 12th-century castle-fortress is the Torreón Árabe, an ancient watchtower located in the historical old town of Rus, in the province of Jaén.
This masonry tower has a 12-metre perimeter, it is cylindrical and almost solid, with just a few arrow-holes and drainage channels. There used to be another two towers that made up the complex but these have now disappeared.
It was declared a Historical Monument in 1985. It is currently used as a cultural centre.
