Oratorio Rupestre de Valdecanales
Located in the immediate surroundings of Rus (8 km) and near the Guadalimar River, Valdecanales Cave Art Sanctuary or Valdecanales Cave, presents great cultural, historical and tourist value, as it is the only example of this genre known in southern Spain.
The cave sanctuary is of Visigoth origin and is estimated to have been built between 6-7 AD. Located on the Alcobilla hill, between Zagahón and close to the Giribaile reservoir. It is a hypogeum comprising three caves carved out of the rock. It is identified, on one side, as a space dedicated to religious functions, easily recognisable by his façade accentuated by decorated arches, and on the other, the remains of the buildings interpreted as a home to a small community of hermits.
The façade, of monumental character, presents a series of horseshoe arches carved in the rock, three of which are decorated with a palmette relief.
It was declared a historic-artistic monument on 21 March 1970.
