Vía Verde del Aceite (tramo Subbética Cordobesa)
La Vía Verde de la Subbética runs between olive trees and vineyards, for 57.3 km, to the south of Cordoba province following the route of the old Oil Train.
Along the disused Subbética train tracks, previously used by the Oil Train, you can travel through inland Andalusia on bike or by foot.
The beautiful landscapes of the Nature reserve in the Sierras Subbéticas mountains are suitably mixed with the preserved railway architecture, comprising four viaducts, five stations, a 139m tunnel, thirteen houses built in a grid (road intersections), worker's huts and railway houses, all in different states of preservation.
Furthermore, there are a total of six rest areas consisting of benches, tables with benches, litter bins and parking for bikes.
Today this route between the Guadajoz River near the town of Luque and the town of Navas del Selpillar, offers hikers and cyclists the beautiful scenery of the Sierra Subbética Natural Reserve and the wide variety of birds in the Las Salobral Nature Reserve.
The Vía Verde takes us into picturesque villages, such as Luque, Zuheros, Doña Mencía, Cabra and Lucena, dotted with raised castles and the occasional mysterious cave. The extension of this journey into the neighbouring regions of Jaén, through the “Vía Verde del Aceite”, completes an incredible 112 km of Vía Verde.
