Vía Verde of la Campiña (I)

An attractive route from the Caliphate capital through the Córdoba countryside. Sol among olive groves

This route follows part of the old reconditioned Córdoba–Marchena railway lines, that stopped operating in the 70s, through fields of sunflowers and cereal crops among olive groves, which are especially beautiful in spring when they contrast their colours in the different fields that cover this flat landscape.

A route of around 28 km which runs between the districts of Córdoba (Valchillón) and La Carlota. This is an old railway that was adapted to be visited by cyclists and walkers. The train, previously known as "Marchenilla" or "Botijito”, passed between two very different areas: the Guadalquivir Valley and the Countryside. The vía itself is a privileged viewpoint thanks to its broad viewshed from which you can see very different places such as the Almodóvar Castle and the foothills of the Sierra Morena Mountains.

The Vía Verde de la Campiña runs through landscapes dominated by open spaces, without steep terrain and with a rich biodiversity adapted to the special conditions of the area, where you can see birds such as the crested lark and the lark, and others as spectacular as bustards, stone curlews and gangues. Many of these species are unique in Europe and are currently endangered, mostly due to the intensification of farming that is taking place in the countryside.
