Higuera de la Sierra - Puerto Moral – PR-A 41 Trail
The Higuera de la Sierra - Puerto Moral – PR-A 41 Trail starts on Calle Colón, Callejón de los Gatos, in the high part of Higuera de la Sierra, in the neighbourhood known as Las Provincias. The path makes it way up between stone walls towards La Umbría pass, which is a natural trail between the Sierra de Santa Bárbara and Sierra del Drago mountains, a space surrounded by olive groves.
The first section runs along the sunny slopes of the Sierra de Santa Bárbara mountains. Further ahead, to the right, we pass by a path, but we continue on following the yellow and white PR marks.
Next, we go downhill a little, with outstanding views towards the N433 road and the neighbouring region of Andévalo. A final uphill stretch brings us to La Umbría pass (740 metres) and, shortly after, we can enjoy panoramic views across Aracena reservoir. If we look closely, to the right on the horizon we can see a high peak, the Sierra de Tentudía, home to Santa María monastery, in the province of Extremadura. We can also see the heaps of Cala Mine and, to its right, the Sierra de Viso mountains in Santa Olalla del Cala.
We continue on through La Umbría, along Calle de la Iglesia and then Calle Cantarranas, heading north out of the village.
After crossing a stream, we began an uphill stretch, then we take a turn-off to the right and continue up to the top of the hill. From here, we go downhill and take a path on the left at the next junction. We continue along this fairly flat path this until the road to Puerto Moral from Aracena, which is the end of the trail, between the H-3102 and a stream, Rivera de San Pedro. To the right there is a recreation area called Barranco de La Madrona, which has a picnic area, parking, flour mill and water wheel, and "Los Nogales" botanical gardens.
