To the south of Cordoba province, the GR 43 Trail - Cordel de la Campiña basically follows part of the countryside from west to east. This area has large areas of cereal monocultures that alternate with olive groves. The initial part of this route follows the Vereda de Granada, a Roman road that linked the villages of Corduba and Ategua and which later linked Cordoba and Granada in the Caliphate period.

From a scenic and environmental viewpoint, the most fascinating areas of the route is the stretch which runs alongside the Guadajoz river and its valley, where tamarisks combined with poplar and eucalyptus trees prevail.

We can see cattle egrets, partridges and stone curlews, among others.

The total length of the path is 62 km, divided into two main sections, but the stages can be made shorter by taking advantage of the junction with provincial roads. It explores the districts of Cordoba, Castro del Río and Baena. This path currently ends in Albendín, village of Baena, but in the future it will continue to Jaén.

The popular hiking trail "Travesía Córdoba Ategua” is held annually and is organised by the Asociación Cultural Amigos of Ategua.
