Fuente de los Granados Circular Trail - PR-A 147
The Circular Fuente de los Granados trail - 147 PR-A starts at the gate to the El Robledo Campsite, in the village of El Robledo, part of the municipal district of Segura de la Sierra. In the heart of the lush Sierra de Segura, it forms part of the largest protected nature area in Spain.
Most of this route runs up the slopes of the Yelmo, one of the highest and most symbolic mountains of the Sierra de Segura.
It climbs constantly, but gradually, from the El Robledo campsite to the Fuente de los Ganados, a place where there is a forest house, of interest due to the flocks of Segureña sheep in the area, thanks to its permanent flow of water and a 'tornajo' (drinking trough) that is still in use.
Most of this circular route is on the path, although there are some sections of forest track and under a kilometre of tarmacked road.
The forests it goes through are pine woods containing Aleppo and Corsican pines, with dense thicket of kermise and holm oak shrubs.
From the Fuente de los Ganados, the route winds its way down through the foothills of the Yelmo Chico to the olive groves in the lower part.
You can enjoy excellent views of the Yelmo, the Yelmo Chico and the olive groves that surround Cortijos Nuevos, as well as beautiful views over the line of peaks formed by the Sierra de Las Villas and the outer mountainous region of the Sierra de Segura.
There are three large animal species from the Natural Park in the area: wild boars, deer and mountain goats. There are many foxes and Segureña squirrels, and golden eagles can be spotted.
