IE-029 Campiña-Alcores of Seville
The horse-riding route IE-029 Campiña-Alcores de Sevilla joins two geographical areas of the Seville province through the Corbones river basin, with numerous sections suitable for carriages. It is rich and extensive area of cereal crops, olive groves, and livestock on the left bank of the Guadalquivir River that is home to species of interest such as the steppe birds.
It is a region that has historically been passed through and settled in by numerous cultures, as reflected in its rich heritage consisting of highly noteworthy monuments, excellent archaeological sites, gastronomy, crafts, and popular celebrations. Historically it has also been a land of horses, whether due to their presence in field labor or popular celebrations, which resulted in the development of a great tradition and the existence of magnificent stud farms.
Route
The route starts in the town of Mairena del Alcor, at the foot of the Castillo de Luna, reaching through the Los Molinos reserve the Vía Verde de Los Alcoresold route of the "breadmakers'" train, where one can see the Alcores Ridge, a natural elevation of the terrain at either end of which the current towns of Carmona and Alcalá de Guadaíra are located.
This section, with most areas suitable for carriages, is over alternating flat terrain and escarpments. Once we leave the green portion of the route, we are at the next stage, the Puerta de Sevilla where we will go to the town of La Campana, first via the Cordel de la Campana and then via the Cañada Real de las Carreras de Caballos, crossing a large plain, later entering a foothills area.
We cross the Corbonesriver, a small detour and taking the motorway underpass will take us to the town of Fuentes de Andalucía. Livestock routes and the old Camino de los Palos lead us to Écija, where the route finishes, amidst olive groves, cereal crops, and windmills in the distance.
