El IE-026 Costa de Trafalgar: Vejer - Barbate connects the towns of Vejer de la Frontera and Barbate through Pinar de la Breña, the largest province of Cádiz and including the nature park of La Breña y Marismas del Barbate. Its vegetation comprises an extensive, dense pine forest and a cohort of Mediterranean mountain of palm, rosemary, lavender, mastic tree, etc.

Route

The route starts off in Vejer, at the junction of Manuel de Falla street with the path of San Ambrosio and continues towards the south for about five kilometres. This is a landscape dominated by farmland, which shares space with wind turbines and old windmills. A vegetation represented by Garrigue and Mediterranean bushes, which provide shelter for fauna of small mammals, like genets, badgers and foxes, and some birds: peregrine falcon, kestrels and billhooks.

On reaching the village of San Ambrosio, the equestrian itinerary takes a paved road which leads to Pinar de la Breña. From here until Barbate, the route runs through the interior of the Nature Reserve. After exceeding a cattle grid, the route follows a sand trail that appears on the left and leads to the destination.
