IE-022.1 Laguna de Medina—Las Pachecas
The main attraction on IE-022.1 Laguna de Medina–Las Pachecas is the lake itself, although it is also worth noting the scenery of Los Repastaderos, always green, and the destination village, Las Pachecas, which was formed about 80 years ago when workers from nearby farms – due to a lack of transport — decided to build shacks that they began to group together. The houses are located in a public grazing area that was used for livestock.
At an international level, the Jerez countryside is known due to its Designation of Origin wine, which can be tasted on the Jerez Region, but also due to its natural wealth, because it is irrigated by the Guadalete river and features some wetlands, such as the Lagunas (Wetlands) of Medina and Torrox. The route partly goes through the hills belonging to the town of Jerez, which is the start of the Los Alcornocales natural park.
Route
The route begins in the nature reserve of Laguna de Medina–the largest lake in the province of Cadiz and a place of special interest for birds. It then runs parallel to the Cañada Real towards the northwest, goes past the Casa Colorada — also known as Cortijo del Calvo — on the right, and continues towards the Cerro del Inglés hill after passing the Cortijo de Los Ballesteros on the left.
Later, the route leads to Los Repastaderos, an area of great ecological and beauty and, at this point, it follows a path perpendicular the Cañada Real, which — heading northeast — brings us to our destination: the Jerez quarter of Las Pachecas.
Type of Trail: Linear (two-way). Status of the Trail: Approved and signposted. Total length: 4 km. Starting point: Laguna de Medina nature reserve. Finishing point: Las Pachecas.
